Those 18yrs and up, may certify ONLINE. Please click on the graphic button above to complete 1. Application and 2. Training.

The Catholic Mutual Group (CMG) website also has other training videos you can complete if your location requires.

As part of our commitment to providing
a Safe Environment to our children and youth, our parish conducts yearly
personal safety lessons to all children
in our parish's care.  Along with a strong parent component, the "Circle of Grace" program teaches children that God is with them at all times, especially in difficult situations. Our Catechists and Ministry Leaders follow the Curriculum.  All individual grade lessons are available
in the RE Office for your reference.

Would you like to Work/Volunteer
with the Youth or Vulnerable*?

* Vulnerable = elderly, homebound, sick, disabled,
those with any condition that prevents them from
defending themselves or getting help ​when injured or abused.

Without exception, all applicants for paid or volunteer positions
in the Diocese must complete the following items
before beginning their chosen ministry work:

(1) Fill out an Application for Ministry/Volunteer service
and return Application directly to DRE and CMSE Coordinator,
Jennifer Wicks,  in the Religious Ed. Office.
* Please do not submit a Background Check unless you were
instructed to do so, as this is a fee to the parish.

(Youth version as applicable, for ages 14-17)

​(2) Take a Safe Environment Class

* Currently, NO IN-PERSON Classes  scheduled at OLMC.
ONLINE Application & Training Class offered for 18yrs and up.

Classes are free to Volunteer. No childcare provided for in-person classes.
Open to all those in need of Certification and Re-Certification.

* Classes for 14-16 year olds are held separately with age-appropriate content.

next Training Class held for our Youth Volunteers.

* Classes are offered throughout the Diocese at different locations,
days and times, including conveniently, every month at OLMC.

* Safe Environment Training and Background Check
must be renewed every 3 years.

All ministries require Safe Environment Training:
Parish Clergy, Employees, Staff, Religious Education, CGS, Scouts,
TGIF, YGIF, SOS, Children/Teen Choir, Childrens Chapel,
Vacation Bible School, Retreat Volunteers, Trip Volunteers,
Childrens Christmas Pageant, Eucharist Ministers that serve
our Homebound, Incarcerated, Disabled, ...

CMSE Training
Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment

In the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People,
the Catholic bishops of the United States, address their commitment
to working with children and youth, parents, educators, civil authorities,
and various organizations in the protection of children and youth in our care.

In response to our call to accountability the Diocese of Corpus Christi,
including Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, provide training for
children, clergy, religious, and laity (employees and volunteers)
in the prevention of and recognitions of child abuse.

* The Safe Environment Coordinator is a resource person
in the area of child abuse and the prevention of abuse.
The coordinator works to assure compliance to the Charter.
